From Honeymoon to Rooftop Tent: Our overlanding journey begins

Like all good things, our honeymoon had to come to an end—but not before our extended family grew, our hearts latched onto a ranch we’ll never forget, and I got my very first night in Cory’s overlanding tent.
Cory’s setup is no small thing. He runs a CVT Mt. Hood rooftop tent on a max modular KB Voodoo rack—the original bones of his truck’s overlanding build. What started as a necessity for him has quickly become something I’ve grown to love.
That night, Russ and Tanna did their best to convince us to stay in a perfectly comfortable guest room, but we were stubborn. I hadn’t yet slept in the tent, and Cory was eager to share that world with me, so off we went. We drove into the quiet night, popped open the tent, and tucked ourselves into our first tiny home away from home.
Now, if you’re picturing some dreamy newlywed night under the stars—think again. We

were both exhausted, and Cory’s bachelor-style camping supplies consisted of a couple of mismatched pillows and some thin blankets. Clearly, no woman had yet left her touch on this part of his life.
The next morning, I made it clear: this was going to need some upgrades. Comfort was non-negotiable. What woman doesn’t need a few cozy touches, after all? And just like that, our overlanding journey together had begun.
But as quickly as we were getting started, reality pulled us back. Work, distance, and obligations waited for us. We mapped out our rotations—me visiting him in Washington, him coming back to Tennessee. And on every trip north, I insisted we camp. Much to Cory’s surprise, I wasn’t just willing—I was demanding it.
That first night wasn’t about luxury—it was about choosing each other, wherever the road may lead. And with that choice, our overlanding journey had only just begun.
After Cory got his rack, he realized that it didn't fit properly due to some other equipment Cory had on his truck. Cory reached out, and KB Voodoo mailed the correct parts right over.

Cory purchased a Mt. Hood tent from CVT in 2024. We've added our own personal touches (improving our foxhole), and we love it!
